About Nancy

Author/Illustrator

Nancy S. Kraus is an artist, teacher and children’s librarian who worked in schools and public libraries.  She served on the Caldecott, Newbery and Coretta Scott King Award Committees.  She studied children’s book illustration with Uri Schulevitz and wrote Illustrating Children’s Books: A Guide to Drawing, Printing and Publishing (written as Nancy S. Hands, Prentice Hall Press).

For ten years she self-published Yellow Brick Road, a newsletter featuring children’s books and activities. She initiated a children’s book review column for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and has published articles in Book Links. Nancy is a member of the American Library Association and The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Nancy’s passion has been getting great books to children through her work as a children’s librarian both in schools and libraries. Recently, she returned to her own writing and illustration.
